The context

Two professions where the patient relationship is part of the job

The University of Cádiz (UCA) trains future Nursing and Physiotherapy professionals. In both fields, how you talk with the patient — how you take a history, explain a treatment, reassure someone who is in pain or afraid — is as decisive as the technique itself. And it is the part that is hardest to learn from a textbook.

UCA rolled the MetaMedicsVR AI Platform out across both disciplines, with more than 60 licences — not an isolated trial in one course, but practice available to whole cohorts of students.

The challenge

Communication skills that classroom role play can't deliver

Nursing and physiotherapy students spend their careers in close, constant contact with patients — yet the conversational side of that work is the hardest to rehearse before clinical placements. In-person role play takes a classmate or an actor, doesn't scale to a full cohort, and tends to reuse the same handful of profiles. Learning on real patients, meanwhile, leaves no room for the trial and error practice actually requires.

What we built

Unlimited conversation practice, for whole cohorts

With more than 60 AI Platform licences, UCA's Nursing and Physiotherapy students practise clinical conversations with AI virtual patients they can talk to out loud — as many times as they need, at their own pace, with each attempt assessed objectively against a rubric. The faculty defines the cases, so practice stays tied to what each subject is meant to teach.

Why it matters

Beyond medicine: nursing and allied health at scale

The UCA case shows the AI Platform deployed by the dozens of licences across more than one discipline at the same university — proof that conversational practice is not just a medicine-and-psychology tool, but fits nursing and allied health just as naturally. Wherever the patient relationship is part of the job, the same model applies.

If you recognise your own situation here, let's talk about how it could work for you.
