VIRTEX
VIRTEX: a European framework for creating XR training simulations without writing code
EU project (CORTEX2) · No-code XR platform
The context
Powerful XR, locked behind technical know-how
VIRTEX is a project developed within the European framework CORTEX2. MetaMedicsVR leads it, with the Ludwig-Maximilians University (LMU) in a validation role. Its goal is to democratise the creation of customised XR (extended reality) environments for remote collaboration and hands-on training — to put a technology that is usually reserved for specialists into the hands of the people who actually run the training.
The challenge
Building XR shouldn't require a developer
For all its promise, XR has stayed out of reach for most trainers and educators. The reasons are practical:
- The tools require advanced technical knowledge to use.
- They rarely integrate cleanly with the other services a real workflow needs.
- Browser and XR-device compatibility is limited.
- All of which restricts adoption across healthcare, manufacturing, retail and education.
What we built
A no-code, drag-and-drop editor for XR
VIRTEX is a no-code, drag-and-drop editor for designing interactive XR environments, accessible from both the web and VR. It is built on MetaMedicsVR's technology (Unity3D + WebRTC) and brings together more than five CORTEX2 services in one place: audiovisual collaboration, IoT, AI assistance, scene synchronisation and advanced security — with multi-browser, multi-device compatibility.
The result is a tool a healthcare trainer, an industrial instructor, a retail team or an educator can use directly — no developer in the loop — to build the exact simulation they need.
Why it matters
Anyone can build a simulation, without a single line of code
By removing the technical barrier, VIRTEX turns XR from something an organisation has to commission into something its own people can create. That is what makes it scalable across sectors — and why it sits within a European framework aimed at exactly this kind of democratisation.
VIRTEX represents an evolution in remote industrial collaboration: any user, without writing a single line of code, can create tailored simulations.
